In a bizarre story, a boy, 13, drove a car across Europe in an effort to reach his birth family. The boy drove for a full day straight before being stopped by police.
According to Reuters, an Italian boy took his dad’s Mercedes and drove it across Europe in an effort to reach Poland. An Italian police spokesperson shed light on why the boy took the car in the first place.
"The boy's sister and natural parents are in Poland and it seems he was going there to meet his sister," said an Italian police spokeswoman.
The Mercedes was a high-powered automatic car. The boy somehow found a way to drive the vehicle for 24 straight hours before being stopped by German police.
The boy, who is said to be from a small town called Pederobba, apparently had an argument with his mother on the same day he took off in the car. Reuters also reports that, based on local newspapers covering the story, that the boy has recognized his errors and apologized for his behavior.
It’s not yet known if the boy will be punished, and if so, how that punishment will be enacted.
