Boxing Trainers don't punch a clock

Joe Vargas, the head boxing coach at the Undisputed Fitness & Training Center at 16th and K Streets in downtown San Diego fills us in on his "Daily Grind."

"A day in the life of Joe Vargas: Up early to teach the 6:00 a.m. boxing class, 7:30 take team boxers for a run then 8:30 make my kids breakfast, 9:00 a.m. train Jonathan Koppenhaver a.k.a War Machine, 10 a.m. get Ulises Sierra ready for his 7 rounds of sparring, 11 a.m. train Christian Bojorquez and Jose Toribio for there fights on March 29th in Tijuana, 12:00 noon, teach my future lawyer Kile Jason for a PT, 1:00 p.m. till 3:00 p.m. in my capacity as a Boxing Promoter, I must go and collect money from our sponsors Quality Wash, Empire Bail Bonds, MR Tacos and Beyond Dentistry/Norma A. Ramirez DDS then cross the border into Mexico to take the money to the Tijuana Boxing Commission for their sanctioning of the event were having on the 29th of March at the Municipal de Tijuana. Then, I have to hurry and get back across the border in order to train the amateur boxing team from 4:30 till 6:00 p.m. Next, it's the pros from 6:00 p.m. till 7:30 p.m. Then comes my most important task of the day, go home and be a good husband to my lovely and supportive wife Lorena Romero. I know it's a grind but I love it."
