Arlington's spanking new multi-purpose arena, College Park Center, will host its first boxing event Friday night February 17 in front of the nation as ESPN will televise the event starting at 8:00 p.m. But the action in the arena for the live event will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The state-of-the-art arena is on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington at the corner of Pecan and 3rd on the east side of the campus, which has already hosted two college baskeball games of the UTA Mavericks that have sold out the 6,200 seat facility.

"It's the finest arena for its size in the country," said event coordinator Lester Bedford. "It's first-class in every detail said the veteran coordinator. "It's world-class all the way," he added.

The event is being promoted by Goosen-Tutor Promotions of California.

The arena has a small floor, so after four rows of seats it starts to elevate, giving the fans a unique vantage point to watch their favorite events.

And boxing fans will be glad to hear that beer and wine will be available for purchase. Video boards are also in place.

The facility can host HBO-level fights and Bedford says he is sure he will be coming back in the future with more boxing events.
