Super middleweight, David Benavidez (1-0, 1 KO) made his pro debut and defeated Herasmo Mendoza (0-1), who was also making his pro debut last Saturday in Puerto Penasco, Senora, Mexico.
At 16-years-old, Benavidez made short work of Mendoza, allowing Mendoza to throw some punches, very few landing as Benavidez blocked them. And then, the magic began as Benavidez landed some hard blows and cut-off the ring. Patiently planning his punches, Benavidez began a barrage of punches and landed a left that sent Mendoza to the canvas. The referee was giving a count, when Mendoza's corner said they had seen enough, which was the right decision. The fight was stopped in round-1, giving Benavidez the knockout win.
Benavidez, considered a prodigy even before his debut, has sparred with many of the best fighter in the world. He has trained at the Wild Card Gym with Freddy Roach, and sparred with Kelly Pavlik, Genady Golovkin and Nobuhiro Ishida just to name a very few, the list is much longer.
David is the younger brother of Jose Benavidez Jr., and is trained by his father, Jose Benavidez Sr. Boxing is the family business, and they all do it well, with David's debut fight under his belt, expect to see a long and entertaining career.
