Gloria Allred has been hired to represent battered female-boxing-champ Christy Martin, and they will hold a news conference at 1:30 p.m. today.

Martin's 66-year-old husband and trainer, James, was accused of stabbing and shooting the boxing phenom just before Thanksgiving. Shortly before he was apprehended by the police, he allegedly stabbed himself.

According to earlier police reports, Martin was no longer living with her husband, but had returned to their home to tell him that she was leaving him for a woman named Sherry.

An angered James threatened revenge, stating he would "ruin Christy's career and name for a long time," and would release "incriminating videos of her over YouTube."

After James Martin's bond hearing today, Allred and Christy Martin will speak to the public in a news conference that will be live streamed by TMZ.

Martin met James in 1991, at a gym in Bristol, Tennessee, where he prepared her for a boxing career before becoming her husband.
