For the third straight week, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Clip ‘Misty Mountains Song’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MHTN4aptCo&feature=youtube_gdata_player) finds itself at the top of the box office. This weekend it took in $32.9 million. This brings the 3-week total to $222.7 million domestically, and $686.7 world wide. Currently, it’s still at the bottom for the series at the box office and it needs another $200 million to reach the #3 spot.
Premiering at #2 is Django Unchained (Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUdM9vrCbow&feature=youtube_gdata_player) which took in $30.6 million the weekend. The movie had premiered Christmas day at $33.4 million giving it a $64 million opening weekend.
Coming in at #3 is the premiere of Les Miserables (Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luEFm84s4ol&feature=youtube_gdata_player )with $28 million. For the week it has $67.4 million, which beats out Django Unchained for the week of Christmas battle.
Coming in in the #4 spot is Parental Guidance (Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nmlzCAMJQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player)with $14.8 million. A third film that came out on Tuesday. For the week, the movie was able to bring in $29.5 million.
Rounding out the top 5 is Jack Reacher (Clip ‘Five against one’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwTIskS8Wf0&feature=youtube_gdata_player) with $14 million. For the two-week total it reaches $44.6 million.
With only Texas Chainsaw 3D premiering this week, I doubt there will be much change to the top five movies.
