There are two movies this week that premiered in the top five, but neither were able to take the top spot.
Remaining in the top spot for the 2nd straight week is Oz The Great and Powerful (clip ‘China Girl’: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpzJQoWm6Nk) with $42.2 million. This brings the 2-week total to $145 million. The movie should make well over $200-million and may even touch over $300-million.
Premiering in the #2 spot is The Call (trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-bNfpEonx4) with $17.1 million. The thriller already surpassed its $13 million budget in it’s opening weekend.
Coming in at #3 is the premiere of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=11TzXCWnUao) with $10.3 million. This comedy about a magician trying to get back to the top didn’t do to well with the critics getting only a 39% approval rate with Rotten Tomatoes.
Falling down two spots to #4 is Jack and the Giant Slayer (clip ‘Here Comes the Boom’: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRPkvG42ev8) with $6.2 million. This brings the 3-week total to $53.9 million. The movie has been a disappointment at the box office, no where close reaching its $195 million budget.
Rounding out the top 5 and still going strong is Identity Thief (clip ‘Dead Hobo’: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wofTBYsjXGs) with $4.5 million. This brings the 6-week total to $123.7 million. While it’s not a favorite amongst the critics with a 23% approval on Rotten Tomatoes, the fans seem to like it.
There are four movies set to premiere this weekend. The first is a feel good family comedy about the first modern family in The Croods; four girls try and have the best spring break in Spring Breakers; an admission’s officer meets a man with a boy that may have a connection to her in Admission; and terrorists take over the White House in Olympus has Fallen. There is a chance that these movies will hit the top five, but it might be the 3rd week in a row for the top spot for Oz The Great and Powerful.
