Box office week ending 2/10 (Photos)

Despite the fact that there was a Nor’eastern attacking New England, it was still a strong box office, well at least better then last weeks totals.

Coming in at the #1 spot is the premiere of Identity Thief (trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO12W35DpsQ) with $36.5 million. The movie did so well that it was able to beat out its $35 million budget right in the 1st weekend.

Dropping one spot to #2 is Warm Bodies (clip ‘Julie questioning R’: www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9Sjujmphik) with $11.5 million. This brings the 2-week total to $36.6 million. It looks like its slowing way down at the box office, but with Valentine’s Day on Thursday, it might pick up a little bit over the weekend.

Premiering in the #3 spot is the psycho-thriller Side Effects (Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R9H87zafc0) with $10 million. This movie has been getting good reviews so far but the context will probably lead to a slow weekend this week with more people seeking out the love stories for Valentine’s Day.

Dropping one spot to #4 is Silver Linings Playbook (clip ‘Up Up Up’: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ambgxyQC1bU) with $6.9 million. This brings the $13-week total to $90 million. This movie is nominated for the 4 major acting awards at the Oscars, This is the 14th time it’s been done and the first time it’s been done since the 54th Annual Oscars.

Dropping three spots to #5 is Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (clip ‘The Desert Witch’: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXpC2SNMN74) with $5.7 million. This brings the 3-week total to $43.8 million. This movie hasn’t been getting such good reviews and the box office is showing it.

There are four movies set to come out on Thursday: the latest ‘Die Hard’ film A Good Day to Die Hard; the love story of a boy a mysterious girl in 1st installment of the book series Beautiful Creatures; a man who falls in love with a girl with a mysterious past in Nicholas Spark’s adapted book Safe Haven; and aliens who are just trying to get home in Escape From Planet Earth. With a movie for every generation set to come out this week, it’s possible that all four will shop in the top 5, but my bet is on Safe Haven or Beautiful Creatures getting the top spot next weekend.
