There were a lot of movies that premiered this week but only one of them were able to crack their way into the top 5.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smug (Clip ‘Into the Barrells’: is just able to grab the top spot with around $29.8 million this weekend, bringing the 3-week total to $190.3 million. The Hobbit enjoyed a small drop this week with only a -5.3% change, but it was the surprise explosion of Frozen that challenged the movie for the top spot.

Just missing the top spot is Frozen (Clip ‘Summer Blowout’: with $28.8 million, bringing the 6-week total to $28.8 million. The movie shocked moviegoers with a +46.9% increase from last weekend. Perhaps the fact that kids were out of school helped this movie challenge The Hobbit for the #1 spot at the box office.

Dropping to #3 is Anchorman 2 (Clip ‘Laughter’: with around $20.1 million. This brings the 2-week total to $83.6 million. The movie is doing very well at the box office, already beating out it’s $50 million budget and almost beating out the first Anchorman movie which made $85 million. No doubt, it should be able to beat that next week.

Remaining in the #4 spot for the 2nd straight week is American Hustle (Clip ‘Dry Cleaners’: with $19.5 million, bringing the 2-week total to 3-week total to $60 million. The movie was able to beat out it’s $60 million budget this week, which was enjoying a +2.3% change from week to week. At this rate, it has a chance to maybe get to $100-million but I think it will fall just short with all the new movies coming out in 2014.

Rounding out the top 5 is the premiere of The Wolf on Wall Street (Trailer: with around $18.1 million, bring the full 5-day premiere to $34.3 million.

There is only one big movie set to come out this week and it’s Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. This movie is the first movie to come out in the New Year and will be setting the bar for the movies coming out in new year.
