It was a good weekend with the top movies hitting double digits and it’s a good start to what will sure be a good month at the box office, which includes three of the 5 movies premiering this week.
Grabbing the top spot is the premiere of Ender’s Game (trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SRizeR4MmU) with $28 million. This latest adaptation came in with high expectations, but got mediocre reviews from the fans and the critics. The movie had a $110 million budget and it’s highly unlikely to reach that goal, especially with the tough competition of movies coming out this month.

Dropping to #2 is Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (Clip ‘Broken Ride’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmUo6CpKgVU) with $20.5 million, bringing the 2-week total to $62 million. This movie is having a good time at the box office already obliterating its $15 million budget and should move up the charts for the series in the coming weeks.
Coming in at #3 is the premiere of Last Vegas (Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74epFEH8aaM) with $16.5 million. This Hangover-esqe movie had a lot of hopes coming into this week, attracting those senior citizens that love going to the movies. But this movie probably will only be it’s only week in the top 5.
Premiering at #4 is Free Birds (Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxslnpqFwOs) with $16.2 million. In what is uncommon event, we get a Thanksgiving movie and the closer that it gets to the holiday, the more that it could help it’s box office.
Rounding out the top 5 is Gravity (Clip ‘Hang On’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLS8WPEK6M8) with $13.1 million, bringing the 5-week total to $219.1 million. This movie was a surprise hit for this time of year and looks to be losing it’s luster. It is likely that it will fall out the top five this weekend after spending its first 5 weeks in the top 5.
There are two big movies set to come out this week. The drama-filled movie about a young girl who steals books from Nazi book burnings in The Book Thief; the sequel to the highest grossing film ever made, The Avengers, and to continue on the story of the god with the hammer in Thor: The Dark World. Thor will most likely grab the top spot and will probably stay there until Catching Fire comes out. The Book Thief should hit into the top 5 but I’m not sure it has enough to take the #2 spot.
