Box Kittens in desperate need of help

See also

Five little kittens nearly lost their lives before being found in a soaking wet cardboard box during a major rain storm along the side of a road on Long Island by the Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center. All were in extremely bad shape, and are currently being treated for severe eye infections, in fact, one, named Scott Summers for the X-Men character (aka Cyclops) had to have one of his eyes removed surgically. And, although another has died, officials at the Shelter feel that there is still hope that the remaining “Box Kittens,” can be brought back to health. All are still being given antibiotics and medication for their eyes, which, according to the Shelter are “no worse, but in some cases, no better than they were before.” The kittens are now slated to see an eye specialist to determine what else can be done. They, too have been named for the (mutant) superheroes, with the other two males dubbed “Logan and Rogue,” while the lone female was dubbed “Jean Grey.”

Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center was founded in 1927, and is the oldest humane organization in Suffolk County, “ dedicated to saving all companion animals (regardless of age, physical condition and socialization issues). In addition to its rescue and rehabilitation services, Little Shelter sponsors a “100% spay/neuter program,” in an effort to control over-population of unwanted pets, and is part of the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC Animals. Located on 6-acres, the grounds also include the Sheltervale Pet Cemetery.

Those who wish to make a donation to the Shelter’s “Box Kitten Fund” etc., as well as learn more about they adoption and fostering programs can contact the Little Shelter Animal Rescue and Adoption Center at 33 Warner Rd., Huntington, New York 11743 or call 631 368-8770.
