Kids love birthdays. They love cake. They love tearing in to birthday gifts. They love their parties and the parties of friends and relatives. But what if a child never has a birthday party?

I was confronted with this situation when I heard about an extraordinary local fundraising event. A local organization is making the dreams of homeless children in the D.C. Metro area come true. Extra-Ordinary Birthdays was founded to create and provide personalized birthdays to D.C., Maryland, and Virginia homeless children. You can play a part in making a homeless child's birthday wishes come true by supporting the 3rd Annual Bowling Extravaganza.

What: 3rd Annual Bowling Extravaganza

Where: AMF Capital Plaza Lanes, 4601 Cooper Lane, Hyattsville, MD

When: Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 6-8 p.m.

At the 3rd Annual Bowling Extravaganza for birthday parties for homeless children, each participant will receive:

  • 2 hours of bowling
  • shoe rental
  • food and drinks
  • a chance to win prizes

Extra-Ordinary Birthdays provides homeless children with an extraordinary birthday party, including:

  • setup and cleanup
  • decorations
  • party supplies
  • activities
  • healthy party food
  • birthday cake
  • goody bags
  • a gift
  • a photo keepsake of the birthday party
