On Aug. 29, 2013 Bow of Nylea, an alleged spoiler from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set "Theros," was revealed in a post to imgur.com. One of several "Theros" spoilers in the past day, Bow of Nylea is part of a five card cycle of signature weapons in the set alongside Bident of Thassa (should the rumor prove accurate).
Bow of Nylea - 1GG
Legendary Enchantment Artifact (Rare)
Attacking creatures you control have deathtouch.
1G, Tap: Choose one -- Put a +1+1 counter on target creature; or Bow of Nylea deals 2 damage to target creature with flying; or you gain 3 life; or put up to four target cards from your graveyard on the bottom of your library in any order.
Bow of Nylea is especially deadly when paired with creatures that have trample. That's because when a creature has both trample and deathtough they only need to assign one point of damage to a blocker and the rest will be able to hit your opponent.
Several notable creatures with trample include:
- Advent of the Wurm
- Armada Wurm
- Garruk's Horde
- Ghor-Clan Rampager
- Giant Adephage
- Kalonian Hydra
- Lotleth Troll
- Skarrg Goliath
Crowned Ceratok is one creature in particular who's great with Bow of Nylea, allowing you to transform innocent mana dorks like Elvish Mystic into deadly threats thanks to the +1/+1 counters you'll be able to add. Let's not forget there's a ton of Simic cards from the "Return to Ravnica" block that rely on +1/+1 counters.
Bow of Nylea can stave off an attack by air, and the lifegain it provides may be just what some decks need to stay alive long enough to win. In a deck that can exile or mill its own library, you'll be able to abuse Bow of Nylea's fourth ability to draw the same cards over and over again.
How will you use Bow of Nylea?
