There have been several instances in Austin in the past few months in which bow hunters were arrested for poaching. It is understandable for the common hunter to see a heavy population of deer in a suburban area and consider taking their bow into the seemingly disconnected forest for a thrill. Do not do it!

The punishment makes this act much more risky than most think. Fines have been known to be as high as $13,000! That price tag makes poaching a nonsensical act and any hunter would be wise to only hunt on legal ground. This news may sound disappointing to those that don't have time to drive to west Texas every weekend but there is hope.

There are plots of land IN Austin that are much larger than one may expect and can accommodate a relatively high number of bow hunters. You may have to spend a little more on the lease but the convenience makes the money well worth it. The bonus to this opportunity is the unexpected size of the deer in the Austin area. There have been a plethora of large eight and ten points taken in the past few years.
