Nick Foligno, Brandon Dubinsky and Jack Johnson.

None of these players scored, but all three put a puck in the back of the net. Unfortunately, they were all into the wrong net.

The Columbus Blue Jackets scored two goals (Atkinson and Comeau)in the second period of Tuesday’s game, entering the third with a 2-0 lead over the Colorado Avalanche. The final frame saw a different type of contest, with a different type of effort from the Avalanche.

The opportunistic Avs amped up the pressure, getting a few fortunate bounces along the way. Brad Malone picked up his second goal of the season, taking the puck from the corner and sending it off of Foligno and in.

With five minutes remaining, captain Gabriel Landeskog sent the game into overtime; driving the net hard after a Nathan MacKinnon shot. He was credited with the goal after it went off of Dubinsky.

Landeskog was at it again in the extra frame, striking on the Avalanche’s first powerplay f the contest. The 21-year-old Swede attempted to center the puck, but it instead went off of Johnson and in for the game winner.

The Avalanche now have a three point lead over the Chicago Blackhawks for second place in the Central Division standings with one game in hand.
