'There was no public outcry against the Obama position,' Boulder Colorado District Attorney Stan Garnett told Examiner.com in an exclusive interview. 'The announcement was anti-climactic. We all knew it was coming.'
'The only objections so far have been some ultra-conservative columnists!'
Garnett feels that the current United States Supreme Court is going to let marijuana remain a local issue. 'Each state has its own resources and priorities,' he said.
'The county and state give me 4.5 million dollars to prosecute 1800 felonies each year. There are violent murderers and burglers. I'm not going to squander my budget on marijuana offenders.'
Though Garnett does not intend to prosecute marijuana dispensaries, he agrees with many who feel that there are issues that need to be sorted out. For example:
How much illegal activity does this attract?
What happens if there is a community complaint or a nuisance action?
What are the land use and zoning issues?
People want to exercise their constitutional rights.
The medical benefits of marijuana.
The enormous money to be made. Much of it is currently in cash. It needs to thoughtfully regulated and taxed.

Its about time we start telling our kids the truth, marijuana is safer than alcohol! Why we would intentionally push our own toward a more harmful substance is beyond me.
Its about Time America, seriously, how many suffered because of prohibition?
ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Licensing, taxing, and regulating the distribution of marijuana is the surest way to put the criminal drug dealers out of business and protect our children from the money-hungry criminal element. Its time to protect our children and take the marijuana business out of the hands of criminals. License, tax, and regulate the marijuana business. And while were at it, lets implement a personal cultivation permit. Limit the size of the growing area or the number of plants, and put a small user-fee on it to cover administrative costs, something like a fishing license. Maybe high enough that there will be a little something left over for education or fixing the roads.
One possibility:$100 per year for a permit to cultivate a dozen plants.
It's a win-win.
Cannabis has been on this planet longer that we have. Isn't it about time we quit fighting it? Apparently, cannabis is winning.
Prohibitionists bleat on about "sending the right message", well what message do they send when a kid sees his friend smoke a joint without any problems and then realizes that marijuana and HEROIN are in the SAME Schedule? OMG!
And if the government wants to send a message it holds a press conference, it does NOT spend $40 BILLION of taxpayers money, arrest 800,000 people, and cause 6,000 savage murders every year just to send a stupid message!
End the Prohibition and allow us to undercut cartel prices with legally-grown marijuana. According to the ONDCP this will eliminate two-thirds of the cartel's incomes which will end their ability to continue murdering children, police officers and politicians. Legalize - Save Lives!!
I'm astounded. It's taken FORTY YEARS for sanity to return to the conversation involving cannabis.
For a non-lethal substance that is less addictive than caffeine, science has taken a LONG time to break down the walls of political ignorance regarding it's illegality.
A necessary step with ending this medical tyranny will be bringing down big Pharma with a program of information and a total prescription drug ad ban. And to Concerned Parent, I second
Valid medicinal value, its a victimless crime, the War on Drugs WAY too costly, too many arrests for simple possession, tax it and use the money to pay for health insurance and to reduce the deficit Need I say more?

I really think it would be a great idea to have some states or even counties go legal with Cannabis , and let's see what happens. We hear stories from both side of the issue , but everyone is speaking from ignorance because we need a real life test. I offer up my county as a test ....
Concerned Parent,
I agree with you on most of what you say , but please NO,NO,NO about a "permit to grow" from the government. The gov. has NO business saying that if I want to enjoy some herb that first I have to pay them ????? what are you thinking? What about medical mar. patients ? are they supposed to PAY the gov. for the right to grow .....?
Got something to say?
