If you happen to stumble into Bottega di Capri at 41 Harvard Street in Brookline Village, your sole will thank you later. This quaint and casual restaurant shares its name with the Italian resort island of Capri, and when you eat here, your troubles will melt away like a soft sea breeze.

Bottega di Capri serves up authentic, made-to-order pasta dishes and salads, delicious sandwiches, hand-sliced meats and vegetables and an array of mouth-watering items from its eye-dazzling take-out counter.

If that’s not enough enticement for you, the decor will make you cancel your vacation plans to Italy thanks to Argentine artist, Marcello Lavallen, who made over the cheery interior with the careful eye of a painter, illustrated by the subtle colors and hues that highlight the charm of this cozy space.

Bottega di Capri is a special place. Everything happens before your eyes. It is clean, friendly, bustling, and by the way, did we mention that everything in under $10?

Their daily specials are plentiful and tasty, while their menu mainstays will keep you coming back for more.

Our three-person group stopped in one Friday afternoon and ordered the perfect meal to go that left us satisfied and uplifted. The entire meal cost less than $20.

First, we ordered the Insalata Tonno ($4.99). The fresh ingredients interacted perfectly and exploded with flavor and the tuna did not dominate the salad. Simply explain to the friendly proprietors exactly what you would like on your salad and they'll turn your veggie vision into a tasty reality.

We then went with the Penne al Vodka ($6.50), which was perfectly al dente, the salt did not overpower, the sauce had a beautiful coloring and flavor, and it did not feel heavy, just the way pasta should be.

Finally, the Sandwich Italiano ($4.95) combined top-quality mortadella, salame, sopressata, provolone cheese, thinly sliced onion, shredded lettuce, thinly sliced tomato, fresh pickles, Italian-style hots, olive oil and vinegar. And again, everything including the bread was sliced by hand right there in front of us.

Bottega di Capri delivers the goods no matter what day of the week or what time of day. They are friendly, happy and eager to please. After all, why wouldn't they be? They're in the business of making people happy, one fresh Italian dish after another.
