Both Target and Best Buy offer $50 gift cards with purchase of new iPhone 5s

Target has improved prices on the latest Apple devices again by offering a $50 Target gift card with the purchase of either an iPad Air or an iPhone 5s. This occurs simulataneously with the release of more news on the malware attack that caused Target to lose credit card and personal information for more than 100 million customers from Nov. 27 through Dec. 15, 2013. The latest news on that Target breach, according to a new article posted Feb. 12 on Brian Krebs' blog, is that the hackers used a "sophisticated phishing attack" on Target's heating and air conditioning supplier Fazio, and combined information obtained from Fazio with information Target makes available publicly through its supplier portal, to infiltrate Target's network.

These Target deals last through February 15, 2014. The prices of high-tech devices are generally falling so if you miss this special, there will be others in the near future.

Target's iPhone 5s price is now $179.99 before the $50 gift card. That's the lowest we've seen yet for iPhone 5s. A new 2-year commitment to phone service is required.

Target also offers a $50 Target gift card with the purchase of an iPad Air or iPad Mini. The prices for iPad Air and iPad Mini are the standard prices found at the Apple store ($499 for an iPad Air with 16 gigabytes of storage and wifi and $399 for iPad Mini with retina display, wifi only, 16 gigabytes of storage). The news is the $50 gift card, a Valentine's Day special.

For the brightly colored iPhone 5c, Target is now offering a $30 gift card and a price of $49.99 with a new 2-year commitment for phone service.

Meanwhile, Best Buy is offering a $50 gift card with any new cell phone of any brand, purchased with a new 2-year commitment for phone service with AT&T, Verizon or Sprint. The phone can be purchased any time from now until December 31, 2014. Best Buy encourages interested customers to reserve their gift card now by registering their phone number on Best Buy's web site.
