Boston weather: Warmer Wednesday with blue skies

Forecast discussion: If you had a chance to step outside in Boston on Wednesday, you would probably think it was a late winter or early spring day. Drizzle, mist, and isolated showers passed through eastern Massachusetts, and temperatures only reached the lower to middle 50’s for high temperatures. The only problem is that we are at the end of May. The good news is we will see warmer temperatures on Wednesday, but nothing close to seasonable conditions.

This is due to an upper level trough that is remaining over New England. The trough will slowly begin to move off to the east. An upper level ridge will ever so slowly try to develop over the area, allowing for warmer air to come up from the south. But, a low pressure system will bring a cold front over the area on Friday, giving us another round of light rain and possible thunderstorms into the evening. The front will move offshore by Saturday night, allowing for a high pressure ridge to develop over New England.

This ridge will allow eastern Massachusetts to see warmer temperatures and sunshine for Sunday and most of Monday. A warm front will be slowly moving north and east into New England by Monday night. This front will remain stationary, giving us grey skies, rainfall, and even some possible thunderstorms. The best chance to see thunderstorms at the moment will be Tuesday. Overnight lows will be quite warm, thanks to cloud cover keeping the daytime heating from escaping into the atmosphere. But, high temperatures will fall back into the upper 60’s by next Wednesday, due to lack of sunshine.
