Forecast discussion: You may not have noticed, but a weak cold front passed through eastern Massachusetts during Wednesday afternoon. Once the front passed, high pressure ridging began to build in from the west. This helped create stronger winds this afternoon, as the pressure gradient was tightened slightly. Winds will diminish this evening in Boston, as we will have clear skies and calmer winds. This will help lower temperatures into the middle 30’s in the capital city. We will have mostly sunny skies on Thursday, and with a land breeze, temperatures will increase into the upper 50’s.
As we head into Thursday night, skies will become more overcast as a frontal boundary inches closer to the Northeast U.S. A weak cold front will bring some possible showers starting early Friday morning, and will not end until late Friday night. A new high pressure system will bring sunny skies for Saturday. The high will influence our weather into Sunday, although another weak front will bring some isolated showers by Sunday night.
The showers will end by Monday morning, although we will see limited sunshine. A strong high pressure ridge offshore will keep a very strong cold front to our west through the day. However, the ridge will break down by Tuesday, allowing the front to move eastward. We will see showers at first during the early morning, and one model continues to show very heavy rainfall by Tuesday afternoon. Because the front will be moving very slowly, we could see another round of significant rainfall. Eventually, the front will move offshore, as a strong high pressure system brings down some very cold air for this time of the year into New England. We will see sunny conditions by the midday on Wednesday, but temperatures will struggle to reach 50 degrees in some areas.
