Boston weather: The great weather streak comes to an end

Forecast discussion: On Tuesday, Boston experienced the fifth straight day of gorgeous weather, as we head bright sunshine, comfortable temperatures, and low humidity. However, you may have noticed by the afternoon the air was feeling a little less comfortable. This is because moisture is beginning to arrive over New England, as the southwest winds bring some more humid air. By tomorrow, the weather we come to enjoy will go away.

A warm front will come up from southern New York, helping to increase our dewpoint temperature, but also help create mostly cloudy skies. There is still the opportunity to see peeks of sunshine during the afternoon, but it will not match what we have experienced the last five days. As a cold front inches closer to the area, we will begin to see some shower activity just after midnight.
This cold front will be slow moving, so we will keep with very humid air and grey skies into Thursday. Looking at the computer models, the most rainfall will occur on Thursday, as the front stalls right over the area. Tomorrow night will be muggy and quite uncomfortable to sleep, even with a fan. We may see some strong thunderstorms, along with local heavy periods of rain. So, please take precaution while driving, as the heavy rain may hinder visibility. Also, there is a small chance for some local street flooding.

The cold front will begin to pull out of the area by early Friday morning. We will see clearing skies during the morning commute, with mostly sunny skies by the late morning. Once again, a high pressure system will remain over New England for the weekend. Also, the models are showing in the upper levels a ridge beginning to move over New England by early next week. This will help increase our temperatures, with the chance of seeing the middle 80’s by Tuesday. This will help increase the beach crowd, as some children still making up school this week should be done for the summer.
