Metro Boston, North Shore and western suburbs: With the cooler air now entrenched throughout the region we had temperatures fall overnight into the upper 40s to low 50s inland and mid 50s along and near the coast. It is an invigorating air mass with a touch of Fall in the air this morning. With high pressure expanding overhead we will remain under its influence through the weekend, allowing for fair skies throughout, low humidity and light winds.
Saturday will be mostly sunny with a few afternoon clouds. Temperatures running slightly below normal as highs crest no higher than the low to mid 70s on the coast to upper 70s inland. Winds becoming onshore during the afternoon will keep it particularly cool on the beaches. Expect a chilly night, some inland valley fog developing late, otherwise a clear night with readings dipping into the upper 40s to low 50s once again.
Sunday, high pressure begins to slide to our south and this will bring about slightly milder temperatures. Although a sea breeze is possible once again, generally the highs should range from the upper 70s to low 80s. It is possible the beaches remain in the mid 70s, depending on any sea breezes developing. Nevertheless, with sunshine prevalent throughout it will be a very nice late August day.
The potential for some unsettled weather is lurking early in the work week. The first hint of this will be Sunday night when clouds are on the increase. It will not be as cool with the lows in the mid 50s to 60 degrees.
With the high pressure sinking further south and low pressure streaking across southern Canada we will be in a more southwesterly flow Monday, with skies becoming mostly cloudy. A warm front associated with the low in Canada will swing through northern New England and a few showers could develop here in the afternoon. A better chance for a few showers, even a thunderstorm, Monday night but overall no washout by any means. The chance for any shower activity is not even set at 50%, so many will not see anything as it stands now. We do need the rain, especially the immediate Boston area and the North Shore. Temperatures climb into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees Monday, only falling back to the mid and upper 60s overnight.
Tuesday, mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of a shower or two. Highs in the low 80s, overnight lows in the mid to upper 60s.
As we mentioned yesterday, officially Boston has not had a 90 degree day yet in August and it is looking like it could be a rare August that does not reach 90 with no significant warm up expected through next week.
Enjoy the beautiful weather over the weekend.
