Forecast discussion: A frontal boundary offshore helped a low pressure center bring a few showers to the Cape and Islands on Sunday. Although some areas received some isolated showers, Hyannis along the Cape is receiving heavy rain at the moment. They have already received over a quarter inch of rain in the last 3 hours. As we move through the overnight, the low will push further into the Atlantic, and the Cape will see all precipitation come to an end by 3 a.m.
By that time, a high pressure ridge to the north of eastern Massachusetts will protect us on Monday, giving us mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. Thanks to east-southeast winds, our high temperatures will only be in the upper 70’s inland. As we move into Monday night, our winds will shift to the west-southwest. This will allow for more humidity to begin creeping into our atmosphere. Also, high temperatures will climb into the upper 80’s by Wednesday.
I will be watching a cold front coming down from Canada and into the northern Rockies for tomorrow. This front is going to be bringing us scattered showers and thunderstorms early Thursday morning. The European and American models agree that the front will move offshore before midnight, and we will see clearing skies by midnight. A new high pressure system will bring us cool temperatures and mostly sunny conditions to start the weekend. However, a weak low pressure system along the coast of North Carolina may move into the Northeast U.S. late Sunday. This would give us the first chance at seeing some evening showers. This may put our streak of eight straight Sundays without precipitation at risk.
