Boston weather: Sunny start, but wet finish on Wednesday

Forecast discussion: For the last several days, Boston has been seeing the same weather pattern throughout the day. We always start the morning with clear or partly cloudy skies bright sunshine. By the afternoon, a low pressure system which was near northeast Maine rotated afternoon clouds with the risk of an isolated shower. On Wednesday, we had sunny skies in the morning, but the clouds once again returned by the afternoon. This evening, the clouds will dissipate as the sun sets, giving us clear skies and comfortable temperatures this evening.

As we head into the middle of the week, we will see one more day of this weather pattern. A high pressure ridge will give us partly to mostly sunny skies until the mid-afternoon. By the evening commute, a low pressure system over Wisconsin will move towards New England, and provide us with isolated showers. A second low will form to the south of the first low, and move south of Southern New England. But, this low will bring some heavier precipitation Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Also, the cold front will bring cooler air over the Northeast, as our high temperatures will struggle to reach 60 degrees on Thursday, and the lower 60’s on Friday.

By Thursday night, the second low will have moved offshore. But, the primary low will linger over eastern New York on Friday. This low will slowly move east, but it will take until Saturday afternoon. So, we will continue to have cool temperatures on Friday, although the shower activity will be more isolated. The showers will come to an end early Saturday morning. But, with warmer temperatures, there is the risk of showers returning by Saturday afternoon.

High pressure over the Tennessee River Valley will provide us with a better half of the Memorial Day weekend. Sunday and Monday look just fine, with temperatures reaching the middle 70’s by Monday. We will see increasing clouds Tuesday afternoon, but will remain dry.
