Forecast discussion: Temperatures have been rather cool in Boston on Wednesday, thanks mostly in part with east winds coming off the cooler ocean and increasing clouds. Our high temperature for the day was only 46 degrees. We will see some warmer weather on Thursday, as I am expecting mostly sunny skies for the entire day. However, northeast winds will limit the mercury from rising above the lower 50’s.

We will begin to see clouds increase once again Thursday night, due to an area of low pressure developing over western Oklahoma at the moment. A second low ahead of the system will move east of the first low, and help to bring some scattered showers by Friday night. At this time, I do not expect the showers to come during the opening game at Fenway during the mid-afternoon. The cold front will pass through on Saturday, and all precipitation should end by the middle of Saturday afternoon. Any sunshine may help raise temperatures into the upper 50’s before sunset. However, with winds remaining from an easterly direction, it will remain cooler in the capital city.

A new high pressure system will sit right over the Northeast U.S. for Sunday and most of Monday. A new low pressure system will bring some showers Monday night. The low will gather some strength as it settles over New York Tuesday. This means we could see some moderate rain at times Tuesday afternoon. However, the low will slowly move into Canada, and all precipitation will end as the cold front moves offshore Tuesday night.

As we move into the middle of next week, a deep long wave trough in the upper levels of the atmosphere will remain over the eastern U.S. Although we will have mostly sunny skies for next Wednesday, colder air from Canada will make temperatures well below normal during the daytime hours. At this time, I am only expecting highs in the middle 40’s.
