Forecast discussion: Once again, Boston started Tuesday with brilliant sunshine. But, over the last few afternoons, we have seen increasing clouds and even scattered showers. On Tuesday, a weak disturbance passing through the region helped bring partly sunny skies by the afternoon, along with spotty showers that lasted about 10 minutes.
As we head into tonight, an area of high pressure will move down from eastern Canada and settle near New England. This high will finally give us a full day of bright sunshine on Wednesday. The high will continue to give us dry weather into early Thursday morning. By then, a warm front now spreading from Kansas to Kentucky will slowly move north towards the weekend. This front will give the chance for some scattered showers into Thursday afternoon.
As we head into Thursday night, the warm front will push into the region, and this will create another round of showers. This front will be slowly moving north, so we will see scattered showers, starting Friday afternoon. There will be a brief lull during Friday evening, as the cold front from the low begins to move through the region. We will see widespread showers on Saturday, before the front pushes offshore by early Sunday morning.
Mother’s Day looks to start off grey, but high pressure ridging will be building into the region throughout the rest of Sunday. So, I am expecting some limited sunshine by the early afternoon. The warmer air will remain over the region, as daytime highs this weekend will reach the upper 60’s to lower 70’s. A new cold front will bring another round of precipitation by Monday afternoon, with heavier rain during next Tuesday morning. The front will bring slightly cooler air, as daytime highs reaching the middle 60’s.
