Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure system over the Great Lakes brought some of the best weather we have seen all year on Saturday. It was one of the warmer days of the year, as Logan Airport checked in with a high of 80 degrees. The beautiful weather will continue into tomorrow, as the high continues to move slowly towards the east coast.

After Sunday, however, the weather pattern begins to look very wet and unsettled. The high pressure center will move offshore, allowing for a frontal boundary over the Mid-South to move to the east. We will also have a cold front now in the western Great Lakes move towards our region. The combination of these two systems means we will see isolated to scattered showers, starting Monday night.

Usually, these type of weather systems move off to the east after a couple of days. However, it appears from the computer models that the systems will linger throughout much of the week. High temperatures will begin to fall into the lower 70’s by Tuesday, thanks mostly in part to consistent showers and possible thunderstorms, especially on Tuesday. Right now, even the long range computer models keep some precipitation in our forecast right into next Saturday.

It appears that the European model is trying to keep us a little bit drier during the first half of the weekend. The model feels the main cold front will move offshore and give us partly sunny skies on Friday. However, it does agree with the American model that a new cold front brings more precipitation by Saturday. For now, I have great confidence in the forecast up to Thursday. But, because of the disagreement in the models after Thursday night, my confidence in next weekend’s forecast is low.
