Boston weather: Sun in the morning, rain by the evening

Forecast discussion: High pressure well off the east coast brought a strong ridge over eastern Massachusetts on Sunday. The high helped us receive bright sunshine, and the humidity was quite low. We reached a high of 84 degrees, according to Logan Airport in Boston. However as we move into the week, we will see more unsettled weather, and a possible weekend streak come to an end.

A warm front passing into the Great Lakes will reach New England by late Monday night. The change to southwest winds tomorrow will help increase our dewpoint temperatures. This in point will increase the humidity back into the air by tomorrow night. The warm front may help trigger an isolated shower or thunderstorm.

The warm front will remain to our north and east on Tuesday, helping to bring higher humidity into the area for Tuesday and into Wednesday. We may see high temperatures reach 90 degrees on Tuesday, and into the upper 80’s by Wednesday. Right now, the best risk for strong thunderstorms will be Wednesday, as the cold front inches closer to New England.

The cold front is expected to move offshore by Thursday morning. Right now, the American model is moving the front faster than the European model. So, the timing of the precipitation coming to an end may change over the next couple of days. High pressure will bring mostly sunny skies and cooler temperatures for Friday and Saturday.

After looking over the current models, it appears that our streak of five consecutive weekends of dry weather will come to an end next week. A cold front will be passing into New England next Sunday, helping to create some scattered showers and thunderstorms by the morning.
