Metro Boston, North Shore and Metro West: As we mentioned in our last article there has been a lack of 90 degree heat this season and that trend continued on Monday as many areas struggled to reach 80 degrees with the temperatures remaining in the 70s along the coast. It was another beauty of a day with bright sunny skies and a light ocean breeze which we have seen so often this Summer.

High pressure sits south of the region Tuesday and will begin to pump warmer and moist air towards southern New England on south and southwest winds. Temperatures will respond as they climb well into the 80s for many of you, slightly cooler right along the shore. Skies should remain mainly sunny through the day with winds averaging 5 to 15 mph.

By Tuesday night the humidity will begin to creep back into the area. Expect a warm night with lows an uncomfortable 70 degrees. Partly cloudy skies with some patchy fog developing later at night. Winds southwest 5 to 15 mph.

A cold front will be tracking eastward and toward New England on Wednesday. Out ahead of the front the moist and humid air mass will keep us uncomfortably warm with temperatures again climbing well into the 80s to 90 degrees. The best chance of clipping 90 should be across the Merrimack Valley and western suburbs. Early morning patchy fog gives way to partly sunny skies with a chance of a late day shower or thunderstorm across the interior. Winds will be brisk out of the southwest at 12 to 20 mph.

The cold front draws closer Wednesday night and should move offshore of eastern Massachusetts early on Thursday. A wave of low pressure may develop along the front just to our south and if so this will hold in the clouds and scattered showers for a good portion of the day, after a night of showers and possibly a few thunderstorms Wednesday night. Lows Wednesday night a muggy 70 degrees. Highs on Thursday cooler, ranging from the mid 70s to near 80 and slowly turning less humid.

Thursday night stays mostly cloudy. Cooler and less humid. Lows in the mid 50s to 60 degrees.

With high pressure returning on Friday we are back into the sunshine with much less humidity and cooler temperatures for both Friday and Saturday. Highs mid 70s to 80 degrees, coolest on the shore. Overnight lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

The second half of the weekend may see a threat of showers by later on Sunday. Highs in the mid to upper 70s.

North Shore beach outlook:

Tuesday: Lots of sunshine and warmer. High temperatures in the low 80s. South winds 8 to 15 mph. Water temperatures mid to upper 60s. Seas 1 to 2 feet. UV Index high. High tide mid morning, low tide mid afternoon.
