Forecast discussion: Last night, a few showers and thunderstorms passed through eastern Massachusetts. A half inch of rain fell at Logan Airport. Also, in Worcester, MA, an EF-0 tornado was reported, bringing wind speeds of 85 mph. As we move through Labor Day, the weather is actually better than it was forecast. Boston has seen some sunshine through the day. But, radar imagery does show widely scattered showers and thunderstorms forming. So, there will be a risk for some activity through the overnight. We will also see patchy fog form, due to the high dewpoint temperatures.
As we all return to work on Tuesday, it will still feel like summer. Temperatures will approach the middle to upper 80’s, with the slight risk for some afternoon showers and thunderstorms. A cold front will push through by tomorrow night, helping to create a few more showers and thunderstorms. The activity will move offshore by mid-morning on Wednesday. High pressure will build over New England, giving us bright sunshine for the rest of Wednesday, and continue into Friday.
As we move into the weekend, we will see increasing clouds for Friday evening. The American model is calling for scattered showers by early Saturday morning. We could see heavier rainfall by the late afternoon. Rain will taper to showers during early Sunday morning, before all precipitation ends by noon. The cold front will pass through, and much cooler air behind it will give us the feeling of fall. I am only expecting highs to reach the lower 70’s for Sunday and next Monday.
