Forecast discussion: After looking at the current observations, it makes me believe I am looking at a day in mid-July. Unfortunately, eastern Massachusetts has just started September. Logan Airport hit a high of 92 degrees today and dewpoints are in the upper 60’s to near 70 degrees. This would make the heat index reach the upper 90’s during the early afternoon.
Right now, a weak disturbance is passing through Southern New England. With the heat and humidity, this has helped create some strong thunderstorms north and west of Boston. A line is moving through Boston around 4:30 p.m. We will continue to see the threat for showers or thunderstorms into early Wednesday morning. By then, a cold front will pass through, helping to rid us of the humidity by Wednesday night.
High pressure will continue to give us dry weather for Thursday and Friday. By late Friday night, a new cold front will bring humid conditions back to Southern New England, as our winds turn to the southwest. We will see some scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms through Saturday, but it will not be an all-day affair.
By Sunday morning, the cold front will begin to move offshore. Showers will be ending by the early afternoon. As the high build in, it will also bring down some very cool air. By Sunday afternoon, our high temperatures will only be in the lower to middle 70’s.
