Forecast discussion: After a weekend of gorgeous, jaw-dropping weather, what we received on Monday could not have been more different. Despite the cloud cover, Logan Airport reached a high of 80 degrees today. We reached 80 yesterday, with bright, sunny skies. The current radar images show some showers are moving into central Massachusetts.
The showers are due to a frontal boundary extending down from the Mid-Atlantic into the Southeast U.S. Moisture will come from the Gulf of Mexico, and we will see embedded pockets of rainfall and isolated thunderstorms on Tuesday. This activity will continue into Tuesday evening. It appears the European model gives us a brief reprieve of dry weather on Wednesday, although an isolated shower remains possible. A weak high pressure ridge will try to build down from Canada, and provide us with some protection from any more rainfall entering Thursday.
However, the ridge will begin to break down. A combination of two low pressure systems will eventually move towards the east coast. We will see some heavier precipitation return by late Thursday night. The front will slowly push through the area, but we will see showers and possible thunderstorms into late Saturday afternoon.
Temperatures will remain pretty uniform over the next several days. The daytime highs will be slightly cooler than normal, thanks to the precipitation and cloud cover. Thanks to higher dewpoint temperatures, the overnight lows will be in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s. The long range models are all agreeing that we will have high pressure clear our skies by early Sunday morning, and giving us great weather for the latter half of the upcoming weekend. Temperatures will slowly climb back into the lower to middle 80’s by next Monday.
