Forecast discussion: Although Logan Airport has only reported less than a quarter inch of rainfall on Friday some moderate rain is going through Boston at the moment. The rainfall is due to a low pressure system with a warm front moving into the Mid-Atlantic. This low will help create showers, periods of moderate rain locally, and patchy fog. Already, we have a Flash Flood Watch in effect until 8 p.m. Also, we have a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 10 p.m.
The low mentioned above will combine with a cold front passing into western New York and Pennsylvania at the moment. This combination will bring more periods of heavy rain into early Saturday morning. The chance for a thunderstorm will persist into the early to late afternoon, as the front will take longer to move offshore. We may see a few peeks of sunshine before sunset. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70’s as the warm front pushes through Southern New England. The cold front will push offshore by tomorrow night.
By early Sunday morning, we will have partly cloudy skies, thanks to a high pressure system now located in the Central Plains. This high will bring dry weather, fair skies, and summerlike temperatures for Father’s Day and Monday. The high will move off into the Atlantic by Monday night. By Tuesday morning, a new cold front will bring the risk of scattered showers. But, a lot of the moisture will move off to our north. So, we will see an end to the shower activity by the early afternoon. A weak disturbance will bring limited sunshine but another chance for possible shower on Wednesday.
We will come to the end of next week with a new high pressure system controlling our weather pattern. We will see partly to mostly sunny skies with seasonable temperatures.
