Forecast discussion: A series of low pressure systems will be keeping Boston under cloudy skies and seeing the chance for some heavy rainfall for the next 36 hours. Small bands of showers are now in eastern New York and moving into western Connecticut, as a disturbance moves into the Northeast U.S. We will see this rainfall during the overnight, and some local areas may see downpours. So, some street flooding remains possible.
As we go into Friday, a cold front now making its way towards the Ohio River Valley will help bring more precipitation through the afternoon and evening. We will not see rainfall all day, but we will see periods of heavy rain in some areas. Also, there is the chance for a rumble of thunder. I am expecting the cold front to finally move offshore by the middle of Saturday afternoon. So, we will see shower activity come to an end at the same time. We may see some partial sunshine before sunset. The passing of a warm front through eastern Massachusetts will help raise our temperatures from the 60’s into the upper 70’s on Saturday.
By Sunday, a strong high pressure system over the central U.S. will give our fathers a beautiful day. So, if you had plans for an outdoor barbeque, let it be for Sunday. The high will give us mostly sunny skies to begin the workweek, before a new cold front brings back more moisture over New England.
Moisture ahead of the cold front will bring back cloudy skies by Tuesday morning, and we will see scattered showers by the afternoon. The majority of the moisture will be moving to the north and east, so we will see a lull in the precipitation by Wednesday morning. However, as the cold front moves closer to New England, we will return to precipitation by late Wednesday night. A second round of showers will make its way over Southern New England by next Thursday afternoon. Temperatures by the extended period will reach where we should be for the middle of June.
