Forecast discussion: Boston had winds coming from the northwest on Friday, helping to bring colder air into the capital city. The clouds were from a low pressure system now bringing precipitation into New England. The warm front will bring showers and light to moderate rain this evening. The rain will taper off to showers by the early afternoon, as the low moves off into Canada, and the cold front passes through the area. We will see some sunshine during the late afternoon, but winds will be increasing. This is due to the pressure gradient between the departing low and the high pressure ridging building into the area.

High temperature forecast for April 5, 2014

High pressure will slowly build over eastern Massachusetts on Sunday, giving us beautiful sunshine. Winds will also be diminishing, as the high’s center sits right over the region. The high will slowly move into the Atlantic on Monday, giving us fair weather during the day. By Monday night, a low pressure system forming in the Gulf Coast will move into New England. We will see moderate rain on Tuesday, before the low moves offshore by Tuesday afternoon.

We may see a leftover shower early Wednesday morning, as some precipitation is expected behind the back of the low. By Wednesday afternoon, high pressure ridging will give us mostly sunny skies. There is the chance for more showers on Friday, as a weak cold front passes through New England. The showers will end by noon, with partial sunshine to end Friday evening. A little cooler air will come down from Canada on Wednesday and Thursday. Otherwise, temperatures will be slightly above average, with highs in the middle to upper 50’s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30’s to the middle 40’s.
