Boston weather: Showers end tonight, great weekend ahead

Forecast discussion: After some early morning showers and light rain, we began to see some early sunshine. This helped raise our high temperature in Boston to 81 degrees. It remained cooler than the inland areas as the winds shift to the northeast by 11 a.m. A cold front then passed through the city this afternoon, helping to lower the temperature. It was only 69 degrees as of the 4 p.m. observation at Logan Airport. Also, this front helped create some late day showers and thunderstorms. There are showers passing through Boston at the moment.

The showers will linger into the late evening, before the front passes offshore. We will also be losing the high humidity, as high pressure moves down from Canada and brings drier air. This high will control the weather through the weekend and into early next week. As we head into Monday, we will finish June with temperatures possibly reaching the middle to upper 80’s.

By Tuesday, a low pressure center over Canada will bring a slow moving cold front towards the east coast. Right now, the American model predicts isolated showers ahead of the front, with more scattered activity for Wednesday and into Thursday. Although it is still a little early to forecast the Fourth of July, many models believe the front will move offshore late Thursday night, bringing dry weather and seasonable temperatures for the holiday.
