Forecast discussion: Boston received bright sunshine on Thursday, thanks in part to a high pressure system offshore in the Atlantic. Temperatures were seasonable, thanks to southwest winds. As we go into tonight, temperatures will remain mild, for two reasons. First, we will see increasing clouds during the overnight, helping to keep the heat absorbed from going back into the atmosphere. Second, winds will remain windy through the overnight. A cold front now east of the Great Lakes will begin to move towards Southern New England. We will see scattered showers by the middle of Friday morning. It will become more isolated by the afternoon, before another round of showers arrives Friday night. The showers will continue into early Saturday morning, but we should wake up to partly sunny skies, with mostly sunny skies by the afternoon.
We will see good weather right into Sunday evening. The high will slowly move into the Atlantic, and a ridge will protect the east coast from a strong cold front forming in the central U.S. Monday afternoon. As the front inches closer, we will see increasing clouds Monday night. You will notice that Monday will be rather warm, as highs will reach the upper 60’s.
As we go into Tuesday, the computer models are still unsure when the front will be coming through Southern New England. The American model believes it will not pass through until Tuesday night. The European model suggests it will be sooner, around Tuesday afternoon. For now, I will remain with the American model, as it has been very consistent in its timing the last two model runs. Thanks to colder air behind the front, the heavy rain may have some rumbles of thunder as well. Once the front passes, a strong high pressure system will bring some very cold air into New England. Temperatures will fall into the lower 50’s for highs on Wednesday, and near 50 degrees next Thursday.
