Boston weather: Overnight precipitation, sunshine for Thursday

Forecast discussion: High pressure well in the Atlantic Ocean continued to give us sunshine, but it was still a little humid. The sunshine helped Boston reach a high of 88 degrees on Wednesday. We will see cooler temperatures by tomorrow, as a cold front passes over Southern New England during the overnight. The front may help trigger some isolated showers and thunderstorms during the overnight.
The front will stall south of Cape Cod on Thursday, so the Cape and Islands has the chance to see a passing shower through the day. Otherwise, we will see less humid conditions with partly to mostly sunny skies.

High pressure over the Midwest will control the weather pattern for the first half of the weekend. With cooler air coming down from the north and northwest, our temperatures will remain seasonable. Also, the swells in our seas should be coming down, thanks to the change in wind direction. We should see diminishing rip currents at our beaches.

The high will begin to move to our east Saturday evening, and provide us with some sunshine for Sunday. However, a new cold front will begin to move towards the east coast. We will see increasing clouds by the late afternoon, with the risk of a shower before early Monday morning. The threat of seeing some strong thunderstorms will not occur until Monday evening, as the cold front moves closer to Southern New England. We will see the chance for more showers and thunderstorms into late Tuesday.

Mostly sunny skies are expected by next Wednesday, as a new high pressure system clears our skies. Thanks to an upper level trough along the eastern U.S., high temperatures will only be seasonable next week.
