Metro Boston, North Shore and western suburbs: After a couple of very mild days to begin the month of November much cooler Autumn like temperatures return today behind a strong cold front that is now pressing into the waters east of the coastline. There are a few showers around this morning, perhaps even a flake or two of snow mixed in, otherwise mainly cloudy through the morning with clouds giving way to some sunshine this afternoon through the interior. Along the coast it will take longer to scour out the clouds and we may have to wait until mid to late afternoon for any rays of sun. Speaking of the sun it sets today at 4:35 this afternoon as we have returned to Standard Time until next March. Temperatures today remain in the 40s, some 20 degrees below the highs on Saturday, with gusty north winds, especially along the coast. A blustery day for sure.
High pressure will expand southeast out of Canada and controls our weather through mid week. The beginning of the week will be much cooler than normal, then a moderating trend takes shape Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure moves offshore and we return to a southerly air flow.
Tonight, skies clear out and the mercury plummets. Lows by morning in the low to mid 20s, upper 20s in and around the immediate Boston area. North winds 10 to 20 mph.
Monday, temperatures in the 20s through mid morning will only recover into the low 40s, despite a good amount of sunshine. A chilly north wind continues at 10 to 15 mph.
Monday night, a few clouds around and not so cold. Lows mid 20s interior valleys to low 30s on the coast. Light northeast winds.
Tuesday and Tuesday night, partly cloudy and not as cold. Highs in the upper 40s to 50 degrees. Lows in the 30s.
Wednesday and Wednesday night, clouds increase, becoming mostly cloudy and milder. Highs into the low 50s. Nighttime lows in the 40s.
Thursday will be the mildest day of the week as the high will be set up offshore with an approaching cold front positioned through the Ohio Valley that will most likely cross our area at night. Plenty of clouds around and a chance of a few showers through Thursday night. Highs into the low and mid 60s, overnight lows in the 40s.
Friday will see the temperatures transition back to Autumn as much cooler air once again drives across the region behind the departing cold front. Highs around 50 degrees with partly cloudy skie
