Low pressure moves across southern Quebec Sunday and drags a strong cold front through eastern Massachusetts early to mid afternoon. Arctic air will flood the region Sunday night on strong winds, which will keep it frigid in these parts most of the upcoming week. Gusty winds and below normal cold will make it very uncomfortable early to mid week, with lows at night approaching zero Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights away from the coast. Daytime highs will struggle to reach 20 degrees, especially Wednesday and Thursday when many of us will in fact remain in the teens for highs.
A weak disturbance moves across the Great Lakes Monday and quickly dives southeastward toward the coast. A coastal low is expected to develop south of New England by Monday night and bring the possibility of accumulating snow to the local area into Tuesday. How much and exactly who gets the highest snow totals is still somewhat in question, however southeast Massachusetts may have the best shot at highest snow totals. Still much to sort out and as the storm starts to take shape during Monday we will have a much better idea on snow accumulations. An early estimate on snow totals is 1 to 3 inches, perhaps some 4 inch totals near the coast. For now it is best to at least be aware that a good chance of snow exists for the Monday night and Tuesday morning time period. And, we caution that these snow estimates are sketchy at this time and may change with updates later tonight or Monday morning.
High pressure returns mid week before another storm system approaches from the Ohio Valley late in the week.
If you are going to be attending the Patriots game Sunday evening look for falling temperatures and gusty winds throughout the game. Wind chills could be driven into the single digits by games end.
Five Day Forecast:
Sunday: Mostly to partly sunny and windy. Turning colder late. High temperatures in the upper 40s to 50 degrees, before falling through the 40s by late afternoon. Southwest winds shifting to the west and gusting to near 45 mph during the afternoon.
Sunday night: Partly cloudy and much colder. Lows in the mid to upper teens. West winds gusting to 40 mph, diminishing after midnight.
Monday: Increasing clouds and becoming mainly overcast by evening. Colder, highs in the mid 20s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
Monday night: Light snow developing. Cold, lows in the mid teens. Winds turn northeast around 10 mph.
Tuesday: Chance of light snow early, followed by partial clearing. Becoming windy. Highs in the low 20s.
Tuesday night through Thursday night: Very cold, with fair skies throughout. Highs in the upper teens. Overnight lows zero to 5 above inland, near 10 on the immediate coast.
