Temperatures for the month of December were 3.7 degrees above average, with precipitation 2.15 inches above average as reported in Boston. Through the next 5 days we will experience the opposite trend as it will remain below average in the temperature department and dry as very little precipitation is expected, if we get any at all.
A strong northwest flow will be the dominant weather feature over this time period. That is a cold weather direction for us in winter and also suppresses storms to our south. So, we stay cold and dry. One possibility of some very light snow comes along Thursday night when a very weak disturbance moves across the area. Otherwise, generally fair skies will be the trend into the weekend. Our normal high is 37 degrees and normal low 24 for this time of year.
Single digit low temperatures will also be seen for some inland communities for the first time this season. That will occur Tuesday night, when some of you will awaken Wednesday morning to lows under 10 degrees and again Wednesday night when many more of you will see the mercury under 10 degrees by Thursday morning. For the most part the daytime highs will struggle to get out of the 30s until Friday. Breezy conditions will make it uncomfortable as the cold firmly takes hold this week. However, the good news is that the bitterly cold air will remain to our north.
We do see a slight moderating trend over the weekend and another opportunity for very light precipitation may present itself later on Sunday.

Wednesday: Cold and breezy, with generally partly cloudy skies. High temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. West to northwest winds 8 to 15 mph, gusts to 25 mph during the afternoon.
Wednesday night: Mainly clear and very cold. Lows in the single digits well inland to the low teens along the coast. Breezy in the evening, with diminishing winds to under 10 mph overnight.
Thursday: Sunshine to start, followed by increasing afternoon clouds. Highs in the upper 20s. Winds west to southwest 5 to 10 mph.
Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, chance of a few snow showers or flurries after midnight. Not as cold. Lows 15 to 20 degrees. Light southwest winds.
Friday: Early clouds and slight chance of a snow shower or flurry, otherwise increasing sunshine. Cold and windy. Highs in the upper 20s to low 30s.
Friday night: Partly cloudy. Cold, lows 10 to 15.
Saturday and Saturday night: Partly cloudy and not as cold. Highs in the low to mid 30s. Overnight lows in the upper teens to low 20s.
Sunday and Sunday night: Becoming mostly cloudy. Chance of a few snow showers or flurries. Highs in the mid 30s. Lows in the low to mid 20s.
