The calendar may say January but we were greeted with temperatures in the low 40s this morning. Keeping in mind that high temperatures for this time of year average about 36 degrees, we started the day about 5 degrees over the seasonal afternoon high temperature. As high pressure expands over the area during today we can expect a full day of sunshine, with gusty winds slowly relaxing later in the day. High temperatures will again run some ten degrees or so above normal as the mercury settles in the mid 40s this afternoon. Mostly clear skies tonight will give way to increasing clouds. It will be much cooler as temperatures bottom out in the 20s.
With an approaching warm front well to our south there will be increasing clouds Friday morning, with skies clouding up for the afternoon. There is a chance of showers developing late in the day and into the overnight. Temperatures remain mild so any precipitation that does arrive will be in the form of rain. The chance of showers is about 50%.
The warm front is expected to lift to our north early Saturday allowing for milder air to overrun the area through the weekend. Mostly cloudy conditions may give way to fewer clouds at times. It should remain mostly dry throughout the weekend, although a cold front will approach late in the weekend and might trigger a few showers late Sunday or Sunday night. The risk of showers continues into Monday as the cold front slides offshore and begins to slow and possibly stall south of the region early next week. This will mark the beginning of colder and more seasonable temperatures returning by mid week.
