The threat for a substantial winter storm late this weekend is gone but there is still a chance of a light snow accumulation Sunday night. Otherwise, the weekend features sunshine Saturday, fading behind increasing clouds late with considerable cloudiness the remainder of the weekend. And, it remains below normal cold into next week.

High pressure gives us another tranquil day on Saturday. Although it starts off quite cold this morning the temperatures will rebound well into the 20s this afternoon. That is still about 8 to 10 degrees below the seasonal average for early February. Winds may kick up a bit during the afternoon but overall a pleasant day for this time of year. Meanwhile, low pressure skirts out to sea well southeast of New England.

Mainly cloudy skies Sunday with a chance of some flurries as a weak disturbance is in the area. Then another upper level feature, this one is showing signals of being more robust, gives us a chance of snow showers or a period of light snow Sunday night. We could pick up a coating to 2 inches by Monday morning. There is a chance of some local 3 inch amounts, especially inside of Route 128/95. This bears watching as it could impact the Monday morning commute.

Thereafter, high pressure builds in behind the departing disturbance and sets us up for another period of dry and continued cold weather into Wednesday.

A coastal storm may impact the area later Wednesday night and Thursday. Details are sketchy on this potential so I will leave it alone for now. More on this, if warranted, Sunday and Monday.
