Monday sure had that Autumn feel as temperatures remained in the low and mid 60s with a fresh northwest wind that gusted to about 25 mph at times. Clear, sunny skies through most of the morning gave way to scattered afternoon clouds which have now dissipated this evening as skies once again become mainly clear tonight. Although the National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for most of central and western Massachusetts, we are not likely to see frost in metro Boston or northeast Massachusetts tonight. There is a slight chance of a few spotty areas of frost in northwest Middlesex County but that’s about it in our forecast area.
This evenings weather map places a large high pressure system over the eastern Great Lakes with an upper level low over the Canadian Maritimes. The combination of the two systems gave us the cool and breezy day today and will do so again Tuesday, although temperatures will be a few degrees higher. At times some clouds will filter down from northern and central New England, courtesy of the upper level disturbance, especially through the afternoon hours. The, skies clear out again Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, the high does not move much but will influence our weather all week. It will also protect us from any storminess that will move out of the Gulf of Mexico and keep it suppressed far to our south.
This is a rather boring weather pattern but certainly one we can embrace and enjoy while it is here. Much the same as last week with a cool start for the first part of the week and then a gradual moderating trend toward the end of the week. There is no rain in sight for the remainder of the week and probably into next weekend as well.
Late tonight: Clear skies, chilly and light winds. Low temperatures in the upper 30s inland to low 40s near the coast and about 45 in Boston. A few mid 30s are possible inland valleys and far northwest Middlesex County.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny skies, with scattered afternoon clouds likely. After a chilly start temperatures climb to the mid and upper 60s. Brisk northwest winds gusting to about 25 mph at times.
Tuesday night: Another clear and chilly night. Lows upper 30s inland to mid 40s on the coast. Northwest winds about 10 mph.
Wednesday through Friday: Partly cloudy skies on average. Slight moderation in temperatures with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s, overnight lows generally in the 40s, around 50 degrees in Boston.
