The showers and thunderstorms ahead of yesterdays cold front developed well to our south and moved across the south coast of New England, Cape Cod and the Islands. Locally, once again we missed out on what was thought to be a very good chance that we would get some precipitation, but it never happened. It does not matter how many computer models you have to look at for guidance and or years of experience one has forecasting weather, it is a humbling experience at times and yesterday was one of those days.
Moving on, phase one of a cooling trend has taken place as we woke to a much drier air mass and cooler temperatures this morning. But, afternoon highs will reach the same levels as yesterday its just that with the lower humidity it will feel cooler and definitely be more comfortable.
Fair skies tonight and seasonably cool temperatures will make for a pleasant evening and overnight. Get the windows open and let the fresh air in as it will be a beautiful night for sleeping without the air conditioner humming.
Phase two of the cool down will take place Thursday as another cold front moves across the area by midday. It will be accompanied by some cloudiness in the morning with a remote chance of a shower, otherwise it will be a partly sunny and cooler day. Temperatures will not climb much during the day, struggling to reach 70 for most of us, followed by a chilly night as temperatures collapse into the 40s.
When you wake Friday morning Autumn will be in the air with a cool and crisp start to the day. Even with plenty of sunshine temperatures are going to run below normal and many of us may not reach 70 degrees again.
With high pressure expanding out of the Great Lakes Friday it will be with us into the start of the weekend, before yet another shot of cool air arrives late in the weekend via another cold front passage. After last weekends disappointing weather it appears this weekend will be much nicer.
