Low pressure will track out of the Tennessee Valley today and is expected to be centered near the New Hampshire coast Friday morning. This system will move in quickly and retreat just as quickly, however it will bring a period of showers, perhaps steady rain, later tonight into early Friday.
Before the weather conditions deteriorate tonight we are going to have a mild Thursday as the early clouds and fog slowly give way to partly cloudy afternoon skies. High temperatures will nudge 70 degrees in most areas, which is about 10 degrees above mid October averages. Light southwest winds at 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight, the clouds return and showers arrive toward midnight. Patchy fog redevelops. It stays relatively mild for this time of year as lows only fall to the mid 50s. Light south to southwest winds.
Friday, as the low pulls away conditions improve but there will be areas or fog along with a chance of a few lingering morning showers, followed by a partly sunny and breezy afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 60s with a brisk west wind that will gust to around 25 mph through the afternoon hours.
Friday night, skies clear out and winds taper off after sunset. Much cooler air arrives as lows fall into the low and mid 40s. Areas of patchy fog develop once again. Winds diminish to less than 10 mph from the west.
The weekend outlook is favorable for outdoor activities as it stays cool with generally fair skies and light winds. The one fly in the ointment is that a cold front approaches Saturday night and will spread clouds into the area with a chance of a passing shower overnight. On Sunday, clouds erode as the sun returns and it turns even cooler. Highs on Saturday in the mid 60s, then only in the upper 50s to low 60s Sunday. Overnight lows Saturday night in the mid to upper 40s, cooler on Sunday night as the mercury falls into the upper 30s inland valleys to the low 40s elsewhere.
High pressure is back by early next week and the week promises to start off cool and dry. Monday will feature a partly cloudy sky, highs only in the upper 50s to 60 degrees and overnight lows that fall into the upper 30s to low 40s.
