Boston weather, metro north and west: Mild and breezy, showers by evening (Photos)

Low pressure moves out of the Great Lakes into southern Canada today. Ahead of this system milder air streams across the region, with clouds on the increase and showers breaking out late afternoon or this evening. Temperatures will climb into the 40s on brisk southerly winds.

Tonight, a cold front moves through and moves offshore by morning. Showers come to an end and skies begin to partially clear toward morning. Temperatures fall through the 30s and should settle in the upper 20s to 30 degrees by morning.

With much cooler air overspreading the region there will only be a slight recovery in temperatures during Wednesday. Blustery conditions return as west winds gust to over 30 mph all day. Although the day will start out with sunshine, expect a lot of afternoon cloudiness with a flurry or two possible.

As the low in Canada moves across the Maritimes it will continue to deliver gusty winds and colder temperatures through Wednesday night. Skies will range from partly to mostly cloudy. Wind chills will probably be in the single digits due to the gusty winds and temperatures falling into the teens to 20 degrees.

It remains breezy on Thursday as skies average partly cloudy. Below normal temperatures prevail with highs struggling to reach into the low 30s.

High pressure makes a brief appearance into Friday. After a mostly clear Thursday night the skies fill in with clouds during Friday as another storm system approaches for the weekend. By Friday night and into Saturday we can expect mostly cloudy skies and a chance that snow develops late Saturday or Saturday night, possibly mixed with rain on the coast. Temperatures will moderate slightly as highs approach 40 degrees on Saturday.
