Refreshing air returns today on the heels of a cold front which has moved offshore this morning. High pressure gradually works in today and the theme over the next few days will be a return to seasonal temperatures, sunny days with fair skies and cool nights.
Low pressure is expected to develop off the mid-Atlantic coast and by late in the week may throw clouds and a chance of rain into the area. Depending on the track of the storm and how far north it moves will determine our weather during the Thursday night into Saturday time frame. The system will be a slow mover so if it does come close enough it could bring unsettled weather for a couple of days. At this time computer models keep it mainly away from our area, although too close for comfort, so it will be monitored closely through this week.
With high pressure to our north and the developing low south of us an onshore wind will persist for most of the week. This may hold in some drizzle and fog at night, later in the week, especially along and near the coastline.
Although yesterday saw many watches and warnings in the area, and more so to our west, we dodged any severe weather in the metro Boston and North Shore area through last night. It was quite mild yesterday and humid as well as the temperatures pushed near 80 in some locations.
Five Day Outlook:
Today is a delightful Autumn day with plenty of sunshine and high temperatures in the low to mid 60s. Northwest winds 8 to 15 mph.
Tonight, clear skies, cool and nearly calm winds. Lows fall into the upper 30s and low 40s inland to the mid 40s on the coast.
Wednesday through Thursday bring more of the same with sunny days, seasonably cool temperatures and light winds. Highs in the low to mid 60s, some upper 50s right along the shore on Wednesday, with overnight lows from the upper 30s to mid 40s, coolest inland.
Thursday night is when we start to see clouds move in from the ocean storm. It is possible for some fog and drizzle to develop given the moist onshore flow. Lows in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Friday through Saturday brings a low confidence outlook. If the storm comes close enough we will see periods of rain. If not, mostly cloudy skies are more likely. Daytime highs in the 60s. Overnight lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. If the high strengthens enough to push the storm further south of us then we could have a partly cloudy sky.
