Forecast discussion: The temperatures dipped to 45 degrees in Boston Monday night, which tied an all-time low temperature for Monday night. We will see another night of cold temperatures, before they begin to increase to what we should be seeing for this time of the year.
High pressure over eastern New York will keep winds calm, which will allow temperatures to drop into middle 40’s. By tomorrow, winds will turn to the south and southwest. This will allow warmer air to return to New England. Our temperatures will slowly climb back into the middle 70’s by Friday.
As we enter Saturday, we will begin to see increasing clouds throughout the afternoon and early evening. This is due to moisture ahead of a cold front, which will pass through New England on Sunday. We will see showers and light rain for most of the day, but should come to an end by early Monday morning.
Looking at the Atlantic tropics, only Humberto remains as a named system, while another area near the Bay of Campeche is being watched for possible tropical development. Tropical Storm Humberto is centered at 5 p.m. EDT on 30.3N 42.8W, or about 1045 miles west-southwest of the Azores. Maximum sustained winds are at 45 mph, and is moving straight north at 12 mph. At the moment, the system is below an upper level low, which is helping to stop some of the vertical shear. Once the low moves east, the system could lose some of its tropical characteristics. The system will slowly strengthen over the next few days, and reach hurricane force winds within 72 hours. Then, the system will become a post-tropical cyclone.
In the Bay of Campeche, the environment will become favorable for an area to become a tropical depression within the next few days. As it moves into the Southwest Gulf of Mexico within the next 5 days, there is a 70 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone.
