Forecast discussion: High pressure over western New York brought sunshine to Boston on Monday, after clearing our skies early this morning. We will see one more day of good weather, before we will have to deal with a slow moving low pressure system.
The high will slowly meander to the east, keeping our winds coming from the northeast. High temperatures will be slightly below normal, only making it to the lower 60’s. As we head into the evening, we will begin to see some high and mid-level clouds take over the skies. This is due to moisture coming north from the Mid-Atlantic. A slow moving low pressure system will get blocked from moving to the east, and will try to move towards lower pressure. In this case, it will push the high off to the east, and the low will track off of Long Island. We will see some showers developing by Thursday evening, with some possible periods of light to moderate rain Thursday night.
Showers and some light rain will come to an end by Friday morning. By this time, the blocking pattern in the Atlantic will become free, allowing for the low to move off to the east. It will bring a weak high pressure system from Canada to give us some drier weather in time for the weekend. However, I am not so sure we will not completely say good-bye to the low. Both the American and European models keep that low near the Delmarva Peninsula, and we may see the return of some precipitation Sunday into Columbus Day. Only the United Kingdom model pushes the low out to sea. For now, I will keep partly to mostly cloudy skies for the holiday weekend, with the chance of a passing shower early on Monday. All the computer models agree that we will return to sunshine by next Tuesday.
